ABOUT

James is a 30-year veteran of the retail real estate industry focused on helping retailers with their real estate needs. His competencies include site selection, lease negotiations, obtaining rent reductions, investment sales, construction, disposition of excess real estate assets and real estate bankruptcy. He has working knowledge of most major metropolitan and secondary markets in the US and Puerto Rico.

James has acted as Vice President of Real Estate or Director of Real Estate for a number of retailers including The Sports Authority (450 stores), Noodles & Company (490 restaurants),  Anna’s Linens (300 stores), Skechers (530 stores), Rainbow Apparel (1,300 stores),  Melt Bar & Grilled, (13 restaurants) and Marcus & Millichap.

James began his career at Doppelt & Company representing Riser Foods, a 60 store chain of super markets purchased by Giant Eagle Supermarkets. He became a key member of the Brokerage team acting as the in-house real estate department for OfficeMax, Inc. Mr. Stonehill began working for OfficeMax when it was in its incubation stage and was involved in the decision making of over 1,000 of its stores from 1988 to 2000.  Upon the acquisition of Doppelt and Company, Mr. Stonehill became a principal of Trammell Crow Company, executing business throughout their newly created national tenant representation platform.

He has successfully completed National new store assignments for Best Buy, La-Z-Boy Furniture, and Ink Stop.  He has completed over 225 lease extensions with significant rent reductions for Advance Auto Parts.  In addition, Mr. Stonehill worked on the Anna’s Linens and Service Merchandise bankruptcy and disposition of numerous retailers’ excess real estate assets. In addition, Mr. Stonehill has sold many single tenant and multi-tenant retail properties representing National REITS and individuals. His contacts on the Development and Landlord side of the business including REITS is deep.

James is a graduate of the University of Colorado with a BA in Business Administration-Finance.  He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.  He has spoken as the representative for Retailers at multiple real estate industry conventions.
